Have you ever read a YA tear-jerker like The Fault in Our Stars and wondered what happened to the characters afterward who were changed by grief? If so, then here is your perfect book: The Way Back to You by Michelle Andreani and Mindi Scott is about two teenagers named Cloudy and Kyle who deal with the loss of their best friend, Ashlyn, by going on a road trip through the Southwest.
Cloudy is a cheerleader whose friendship with Ashlyn was legendary. Kyle is a baseball player who was Ashlyn’s devoted boyfriend. Now they are traveling from Oregon to Las Vegas to visit the recipients of Ashyln’s donated organs. Along the way there are gummy worms, Junior Mints, tourist attractions, old friends, and new discoveries. The farther Cloudy and Kyle drive away from the place where Ashley died, the closer they come to her enduring presence. Can life go on after losing the most important person in their lives? If so, how?
The Way Back to You was a book that kept me up until midnight burning through a box of tissues. At the end I felt like I knew all of the characters really well, especially the one who was no longer there. If you enjoy a good tear-jerker, this book is for you!
P.S. The Way Back to You comes out May 3rd. Thank you to Edelweiss/Above The Tree Line for providing me with a free, advanced ecopy in exchange for my honest opinions and review.
