The relationship starts with a flower. And a picnic. And sweet love notes. Zephyr falls so quickly that she doesn’t realize what’s happening until it’s too late. Alec has become her everything. He needs to be her everything. Alec seems like the perfect boyfriend…until the volatile relationship he insists on threatens to explode. The Girl Who Fell by Sixteen To Read author Shannon M. Parker is a stunning YA contemporary romance that every high school girl in America should read.
I’m going to mix this review up right now and mention Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. I’m a huge Twihard, but I’ve always been bothered about how Edward’s surveillance and constant monitoring of Bella is presented as romantic love. If you think about it too hard, that’s creepy. I don’t want a vampire spying on my every move, even if he looks like Rob Pattinson.
Of course, the big difference between Edward and Alec, is intention. Edward is thinking about Bella’s safety, Alec is focused on his own need to control Zephry. But in the real world of romance, how is a teen girl supposed to know the difference? I bet Shannon M. Parker would have an answer to that question. When The Girl Who Fell hits shelves March 1, 2016 it will prompt girls everywhere to ask tough questions.
