I’ve always loved lists which is why it’s unsurprising that I kept track of every book I read in 10th, 11th and 12th grade. 9th grade is forgotten. (Screw you, Freshman Year!) But I digress…
When I was in high school I was hell-bent on one day going to Harvard. If a book wasn’t on my AP reading list, I didn’t have time to read it. Picture Rory Gilmore, and then imagine her without the cool boyfriends. That was me.
The sad thing is that Harvard turned me down. All these years later, I’m still a bit crushed. But I went to Stanford instead and lived happily every after so it all turned out okay.
One of the best parts of growing up and becoming an adult is that you finally get to read whatever you want. It’s not that I didn’t love a lot of the books that I read in high school, because I did, but it’s fun to have freedom to choose.
