“A Heart’s Danger” by Colleen Coble

I can’t remember the last time I read a novella–high school, maybe? So I had forgotten how much fun the shorter format is until I read A Heart’s Danger (A Journey of the Heart) by Colleen Coble.

A Heart’s Danger reminded me of a spaghetti western. There was a beautiful heroine, a dastardly villain, a good-looking hero and a lot of mortal peril. The hook was that Sarah Montgomery was in love with Rand Campbell–who was promised to marry somebody else, and life at Fort Laramie was full of dangerous surprises.

I read this book during a really long dentist appointment where the patient two rooms over was moaning in pain loud enough for the whole office to hear. This meant that the dentist and hygienists were occupied, and my 45 minute appointment stretched into an hour and a half. I was so engrossed in the novella, however, that I didn’t realize the delay. Apparently, A Heart’s Danger makes the dentist fun!
